Wholecut Oxfords

Thomas Bird wholecut shoes are hand crafted in Italy using high quality, full grain calf leather. They are coloured by hand and burnished by Italian craftsmen to produce a rich colour and patina. We offer a wide range of colours and patinas depending on the outfit and the occasion. Black is often the first choice wholecut, but increasingly people are looking at and choosing other colours for a pop of colour, including oxblood, chestnut, brown, plum, aubergine, olive green and blue. We also offer options with a brogue/medallion punched toe and custom patinas.

Wholecuts look simple and elegant, but actually demand a high level of skill to produce. The leather needs to be high quality, blemish free and supple. The craftsman needs to skilfully work the single piece of leather to form the shape of the shoe, rather than as normally, rely on small pieces of leather stitched together to form the shape.
